Heather and John | Wedding Photographs at the Old Town Marquee Lansing

Heather writes:

“On a rainy Monday evening hike to the base of the Au Sable Point Lighthouse overlooking Lake Superior, John pulled out the Choose Your Own Adventure book and asked me to read the page specific to the Lighthouse.

The bottom of the page read, “To continue the adventure turn to page 23.” Page 23, which was the back cover of the book, read, “The end of one adventure means the start of a new one!” As I read those words, John got down on one knee, opened the secret page he had magnetized to the back cover of the book, and opened the secret compartment containing the ring… and asked me to marry him.

For those of you wondering, I said yes 🙂 And after a few moments I turned to John and asked, “So you’re telling me I’ve been carrying around my ring for three days!?!?!!”

The rest of the evening was somewhat of a dream. The rain stopped, the clouds cleared in time for a beautiful sunset, and I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing in a state of joy and disbelief.”

Heather and John’s love for each other is plain for everyone to see. But what I got to see on their wedding day was the inclusiveness of that love- the way that they let that love extend outward from between themselves and surround their loved ones. From every look, every smile, every kind touch, it was clear that they had filled their lives with people to love and care for. And, as I later learned, they seek to find more people to add to their circle of love through ministry work as well.

Love is a hard thing to describe in words. Thankfully, a photograph is worth a thousand of them <3

The gorgeous Old Town Marquee was filled with John and Heather’s decor: a book theme for their wedding! Bookmark placecards greeted guests, while vintage book pages graced tables…

John designed not only these gorgeous book centerpieces, but created a way to make them glow in the evening!!

I couldn’t help but laugh when John’s father complimented Heather’s parents on raising such a kind, loving, and smart woman.. and Heather’s parents shared a congradulatory bro-fist haha!

The bride’s grandfather was determined to dance with his girl on her wedding day. With a little help, he lifted up from the wheelchair and wrapped his arms around her! They danced for a bit, while his smile glowed bright. <3

Weding days can be exhausting. <3 Thankfully, the Old Town Marquee has a comfy bridal nook to sneak away to. Heather got to take a quick nap while her guests were entertained! #lifegoals
