I’d also like to give a quick special shout-out to Erin and Eric’s DJ, Seth (of Michaels Entertainment). He truly went above and beyond! Here’s three reasons I was impressed (that aren’t about his great skills at selecting music and keeping the party hopping!) :
- When the abnormal extreme heat of the day overcame the venue’s air conditioning and the air stopped working, the room became unbearably hot. I noticed that Seth was still wearing his suit coat (even though he was standing in front of a huge window being roasted by the setting sun) and I began to tease him about it. But he just smiled and said: “Yeah, I know, it’s super hot.. but it’s important to be professional- and to look professional.” It was clear that Seth really cares about putting his clients over his own comfort. (don’t worry- I eventually convinced him that taking off his coat in a 100+ degree room would be totally okay, especially since all the other men there had done the same and even rolled up their shirt sleeves- including the groom, haha!)
- Because of the heat, the decision was made to move the dancefloor outside to the patio- which was awesome for me as a photographer because the light was gorgeous- but how would we get the sound out there? Seth simply gave a thumbs up, and said: “Just give me fifteen minutes, I have an extra speaker and gear in the car just in case. I’ll go set it up!” That’s right- even though there was ZERO reason for him to think that there might be a need to play music outside for this indoor wedding reception, he brought the gear for it anyway. Seth comes prepared, and works hard to be flexible to meet his clients wishes. (compare this to a “DJ” that I worked with a few years ago who asked me if I had an extra aux cable, because he forgot his and didn’t have a backup. Um, what?)
- Finally, as a photographer, I was delighted that Seth was an excellent communicator. He was friendly, cheerful, and accommodating, and he checked in with me before each “event” of the night (which is super important- from time to time a lesser DJ will, say, announce the start of the first dance while I’m in the bathroom, and I have to make a run for it to make it in time!). Seth coordinates with your other vendors to help all of us do our jobs better.
