portrait session DIA

I adore engagement sessions- the chance to get to know my couples in a relaxed setting long before the wedding date means I get to make more beautiful and meaningful photographs of them- and they feel more relaxed for the wedding photographs! This session, though, had a bit of a twist… since Ruzanna and Michael are actually technically married! 😉

Ruzanna writes:

“We had always talked about being together and a marriage seemed like the appropriate next step. However, with me having limited time in the US after college, we agreed that getting married sooner rather than later would make the most sense (so I could stay). After we proposed this idea to my parents, they got a little too excited but decided to come for a visit straightaway from Malaysia, with the intention to have us married the following month! It felt like a sudden decision, but as we had known each other for a long time, we were comfortable and we just did it!”

We past African masks and Indian carpets as we began the  session in the gorgeous and fascinating Detroit Institute of Arts…
